Fabrics

These fabrics, dating from the end of the 19th century to the present day, are kept at the headquarter of the Tessitura in eight chests of drawers, where they are grouped by technique and type, and in ten boxes, which contain fabrics selected in the past to be showcased in exhibitions and events. Many of the samples are accompanied by a tag, which recalls their identification data: the production technique, the color, the height, the design code, the length produced. This data makes it possible to make explicit the links between the samples and the historical documentation that testifies to the activity of the Tessitura: through the code and the technique, it is possible to relate the fabrics to the weaving drafts kept by the company; again through these two data it is possible to trace the historical name of the fabric, as it is reported in the register of codes kept by the Tessitura. The conventional name and code are also the key data to search the company's historical archive for traces of the production of a particular fabric: the attestations in the warehouse registers and yarn registers, the orders and commissions in the historical correspondence, and so on. This closes the circle of the creation of fabrics, which starting from the customer's request and passing through the technical design led to the production of the yarn and the conservation of the sample in the product archive.
