“Servire Mariae..” commission velvet

The historical name of this soprarizzo velvet would seem to refer to the church of S. Carlo al Corso in Milan, and the decorative layout suggests that the design was conceived having in mind the Order of the Servants of Mary which works in that church. The weaving drafts preserved in the archives testify that the coat of arms present in the design was conceived as a separate and removable element.
