Salute Colonne velvet
Organza Orofino soprarizzo (Basilica della Salute's columns)
Data
ante 1934
Type
Velvet
This velvet, of which there are samples attributable to two different productions in the Tessitura, is among the most important in the history of the company, as it was used to adorn the columns of the Basilica della Salute in Venice. In the historical correspondence of the Tessitura there is an order from 1934 from the parish priest of St. Eufemia in Giudecca, who wanted 25 meters, in the same color as the fabric of the Salute, to adorn the columns of the church [Source: Historical archive section 1905-1945, correspondence, letter 1194/1]. The Tessitura also preserves a photograph, taken during the 1957 visit, in which the velvet is shown to Cardinal Roncalli, then patriarch of Venice (later Pope John XXIII).
